Award Winning Attendant Retires
Last updated: 07/09/2006 - 10:42
The retirement has been marked of the man responsible for making public toilets in Kyle nationally recognised for their standard of excellence and for making such an unlikely venue into a 'must-visit' location for tourists.
William Jack has worked for 17 years at the Kyle toilets since they were opened in 1986. At the Scottish ‘Loo of the Year’ Awards in Pitlochry in November 2002, Willie won the ‘Attendant of the Year’ Award - for the second time in 3 years - and Kyle Toilets were awarded the ‘Five Star Loo of the Year’ Award for the second year in succession. In addition to Willie’s success, the Council were awarded the ‘Standard of Excellence National Award’ for providing consistently high standards in its ‘Away from Home Toilets’.
Local Highland Councillor Bill Fulton said: "Willie has been winning awards over many years for Kyle. Not only did he keep the toilets spotless, he was always courteous, patient with those who don’t want to pay and was a source of information regarding places of interest, public transport timetables and all sorts of useful advice.
"He also decorated the toilets with fresh flowers and heather and photographs of Scottish attractions. He was totally dedicated to his work and was always looking for ways in which to improve the service. I wish him all the best in his retirement and acknowledge that the Council will have a hard act to follow in filling Willie’s place."
Bill Ross, Highland Council’s Area TEC Services Manager said: "On behalf of Highland Council and Willie’s colleagues I thank him for his commitment to providing a valued public service and wish him all the best in his retirement."
A retirement presentation was made to Willie at the Lochalsh Hotel by friends and colleagues from The Highland Council.
