Not At The Same Time..

Sex and bananas are being recommended as a cure for insomnia, by the authors of a report aimed at combating stress.

Almost half (49%) of all those questioned named Sunday as their most sleepless night - compared to 16% who had particular problems on Saturday and 11% on Friday.

Just 5% of those questioned suffered most on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, the survey, conducted by NOP, found.

Commenting on the condition that he dubbed "Sunday night fever", an NOP spokesman said: "Stress is one of the biggest causes - and commonest symptoms - of insomnia.

Working Week

"Sunday night is the eve of the working week and the time, it seems, when people start to get wound up about the week that lies ahead - the true onset, if you like, of that Monday morning feeling.

The spokesman recommends sex and bananas, "although not necessarily at the same time," he said.

Overall, 63% of the 1,000 people questioned admitted to having sleeping problems. Of these, 51% identified a particular problem.

In addition to anxieties about the beginning of the working week, alcohol could also explain why Sunday nights are such an ordeal for those languishing in the throes of Sunday night fever, suggested a spokeswoman.

"But it is also probably to do with the disruption of routine, because good sleep is related to having a good routine, which can get disrupted on weekends."
