£20m For Police Conditions

Last updated: 07/09/2006 - 10:46

Police forces will be able to bid for £20m funding which has been specifically earmarked to modernise working conditions for police officers.

Modernising conditions may include carrying out major refurbishments to police estates and improving the daily working conditions of police officers. A further £10m will be made available as a reserve for modernisation plans.

Modern Working Environment

"A modern working environment is essential to support the police in creating an efficient and effective Police Service," said David Blunkett. "Modernising the police estate is just one of the steps we are taking to improve the day to day working conditions of police officers and give them the support they need, to do what is often a difficult and demanding job.

"As part of our police reform programme we will free up officer time so they spend more time on policing rather than paperwork, improve training, provide better pay and conditions and recruit record numbers of police officers, to help make the job of police officers better, easier and more up-to-date."
