Panama

Panama is not one of the most visited tourist destinations, but it has such much to offer if you scratch below the surface, not least some of the world's finest snorkelling, deep sea fishing and sunbathing.
Boquete
The small mountain town of Boquete has a fresh climate and basks in the cleanliness of the mountain air. The climate here is the big attraction as it provides sanctuary from the heat of the central, lower areas.
The volcano of Baru is very near to Boquete, and so makes a good base for any climbing expedition or for visiting the huge national park below it.
Panama Canal
The Panama Canal is a marvel of engineering and one of the most important waterways in the world. The canal is the portal for 12,000 ships between the Pacific and the Atlantic each year. The sight of a massive liner gliding down the narrow strip of water with jungle on either side is an unforgettable experience.
There are many tours of this area, arranged from the Miraflores locks to the north-east of Panama City, and they will also take you to the Miraflores Lake.
Panama City
Panama City is the capital, a modern, thriving commercial centre that stretches along the Pacific coast, beginning in the east at the ruins of Panama Viejo and stretching all the way to the Panama Canal.
The main area of historical and architectural interest is the old district of San Felipe. Attractions include the Metropolitan Church, the History Museum of Panama and the sea wall that the Spaniards built 400-years ago. Other attractions are the Panama Viejo ruins, the Summit Botanical Gardens and Zoo and the tropical forests of the Sobrerania National Park and the National Metropolitan Park.
Taboga
The island of Taboga is about 15 miles south of Panama City and is a truly enchanting place. There are beaches, rainforest and one of the largest colonies of brown pelicans in the world. The island is famous for its seasonal flowers, for its tranquillity and beauty.
From Panama City to London is 14 hours.
