New Passport Services
Last updated: 25/10/2006 - 09:46
Two new fast-track services will guarantee we get our passports within specific timeframes.
The Passport Agency has introduced new fast-track services, at the same time as a small increase in the basic passport fee.
From now on, travellers urgently requiring passports will be able to obtain a one-week guaranteed service, for £60, or a same-day guaranteed premium service, at £75.
New Charges:
1. A standard 10-year passport adult passport costs £30 and a 48-page passport £40.
2. The fee for amending an existing passport has increased to £18.
3. The cost of a passport for a child has increased to £16.
4. The additional charge, for those making applications in person, in the United Kingdom, has increased to £15.
5. The fee for a collective passport, for organised trips for schools and youth groups, has increased to £42.
6. The standard two-week service, by post, costs £30.
You can now apply for passport renewal online.
Why The Change?
Passport fees changed on 21 November 2002, following a careful review of costs. The fee for each type of passport service now closely reflects the costs of providing that service. The fee also bears its share of the cost of providing consular protection services to British passport holders travelling overseas. Full details of costs for passport services can be found here.
By law, the Passport Agency, is required to review the basic fee on an annual basis, and is required to charge to cover running costs.
