Before & After 'Raging Moon'

To commemorate three decades as one of the most powerful vocalists in music Sanctuary Records release a new anthology of Who frontman Roger Daltrey.

Moonlighting - The Anthology by Roger Daltrey

For over 30 years, Roger Daltrey has pursued a solo career alongside his primary role as lead singer for The Who. To commemorate these three decades, Sanctuary Records release Moonlighting - The Anthology.

This double chronological anthology album highlights the varied musical paths Roger has chosen, compiling all his hits and near misses, and includes the brand new track - A Second Out, recorded in Los Angeles in the Autumn of 2004. From ballads Giving It All Away to Brecht's Mack the Knife and with the added bonus of unreleased tracks, Moonlighting amply illustrates Daltrey's willingness in adapting to unexpected styles away from his more popular ‘day job.’

Considered by many to be one of the most powerful vocalists in the long story of rock 'n' roll, Roger Daltrey's solo album Moonlighting documents the solo career he forged away from The Who in 1973, with the tracks One Man Band, The Way Of The World, Thinking and Giving It All Away taken from his debut album Daltrey, through to recent recordings of Who classics Pinball Wizard - from the musical Tommy - and Baba O'Riley.

Disc 1 of this 2-disc anthology, champions three tracks from Daltrey's 1975 second solo album Ride A Rock Horse. (Come And) Get Your Love, World Over and Proud are all songs which showcased Daltrey's vocal versatility outside the hard-rock confines of The Who.

Moving on to 1976 and Daltrey's third solo album One Of The Boys is released containing the singles Avenging Annie and the title track One Of The Boys. Critics at the time noted that Daltrey's deliverance conveyed the same assurance and conviction usually only found in performances as part of the Who, but it's the soundtrack for the movie McVicar, (with Daltrey flourishing in both acting and production roles, something there’s been little shortage of in the years since, with the vocalist turning up in the Chesney Hawkes vehicle Buddy’s Song and even The New Adventures of Superman on TV). Indeed, it’s the McVicar soundtrack here that - arguably - stands out as the main high point of his early solo career. The film soundtrack contained the hit Without Your Love, which remains Daltrey's most successful solo single to date.

Keith Moon

After the first 'official' break-up of the Who in 1982, Daltrey picked up the pace of his solo career and released three albums between 1984 and 1987, Parting Should Be Painless, Under a Raging Moon (a tribute to the late Who drummer, Keith Moon) and Can't Wait To See The Movie. Disc 2 of Just A Boy contains three tracks from Daltrey's 1992 album Rocks In The Head, plus a variety of musical gems including Brecht's Mack The Knife and Daltrey's versions of the Elton John classic Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me and Led Zeppelin's Rock 'n' Roll.

Since the early 80's, Daltrey has taken part in several Who reunions, including a 1985 appearance at Live Aid, a 1989 silver anniversary tour and the 1992 Freddie Mercury Aids Benefit Concert, where his performance was one of the highlights. Daltrey continues to perform with former band-mate Pete Townshend, with recently a one-off concert performance of Tommy at the Royal Albert Hall during March last year, and also headlined the Summer 2004 Isle Of Wight Festival.
