Farewell To Crewe Factory
Last updated: 07/09/2006 - 09:39
The last Rolls-Royce Silver Seraph to be built at the luxury car makers' Crewe plant.
The 170 Rolls-Royce Silver Seraphs were manufactured at the Creww plant- which ceased to be turned out when German car giant BMW took over at the beginning of 2003.
As a special farewell the firm created an effective 'limited edition' by ensuring that the final Silver Seraph featured some of the great, traditional hallmarks of previous models. All badges on the final car - on the radiator shell, boot and rear panels - were red, as in the pre-1933 models of the cars. Another feature included was the exclusive and prized furniture and cabinet wood veneer, Rosewood Burr. This was one of the first veneers Rolls-Royce employed for dashboards.
Labour of Love
The exterior of the car also featured a duo-tone paint scheme in the style popular in the Silver Cloud I - the first ever Rolls-Royce model to be built at the Crewe works. Among other special features was a pair of specially branded umbrellas in the luggage compartment.
The Rolls-Royce Silver Seraph was a model produced from 1998 to 2002, with an order price at the last run of £155,175. A total of 1,570 Silver Seraphs were prodcued at Crewe during the four years of production.
