"Watch your jaw hit the deck as George Lucas unveils a sci fi classic." - The Daily Mirror
Director George Lucas brings us his sixth - and final(?) - feature set in the Star Wars universe he created back in the mid 1970s. This latest is designed to dovetail the storyline began in Episodes I and II into the saga began in the original feature: Star Wars: A New Hope, from 1977.
"Any fears that the climax to the epic Stars Wars series would disappoint are swept away in a roller-coaster ride of breathtaking action, romance and a heartbreaking choice between good and evil...With Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, Lucas has completed his vision and excelled himself with a stunning spectacle that outdoes everything that has gone before.." - John Hiscock (Daily Mirror)
The film once again stars: Ewan McGregor (Trainspotting, Moulin Rouge, Shallow Grave) as Ben ‘Obi-Wan’ Kenobi, Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker/Lord Darth Vader, Natalie Portman (Leon, Garden State, Beautiful Girls, Everybody Says I Love You) as Senator Padmé Amidala/Naberrie-Skywalker, Ian McDiarmid as Emperor Palpatine/Darth Sidious, Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction) as Mace Windu, Christopher Lee (The Wicker Man, The Man With The Golden Gun – and countless Hammer Horror films) as Count Dooku/Darth Tyranus, Anthony Daniels as C-3PO, Kenny Baker as R2-D2, Peter Mayhew as Chewbacca and Frank Oz, as the voice of animated Jedi Master Yoda.
"Whatever one thought of the previous two instalments, this dynamic picture irons out most of the problems, and emerges as the best in the overall series since The Empire Strikes Back." - Todd McCarthy (Variety)
Star Wars Mania
The Force will be strong in London's Leicester Square on May 16 as Star Wars mania is set to grip the UK capital for an unprecedented day of events celebrating the entire Star Wars saga, culminating in the U.K. premiere of ‘Episode III’ Revenge of the Sith, to be attended by writer-director George Lucas and the stars of the movie.
Fans will want to prepare to have their light sabres out at dawn, fighting to get a perfect seat for a world exclusive: all six episodes of the Star Wars saga presented back-to-back in a once in a lifetime ‘Star Wars Marathon’ being held at the UCI Empire, Leicester Square cinema. Beginning at 7a.m. with Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope the mammoth (or should that be the space opera’s own equivalent – ‘bantha’) screening will end with an evening public premiere of Revenge of the Sith.
The entire saga will be shown in a single day in front of more than a thousand lucky fans. And that's just the beginning! The day will be filled with never-to-be repeated activities presented by Lucasfilm Ltd and Twentieth Century Fox – open to the general public, so everyone will have the chance to experience the galaxy's most exciting, action-packed celebration of the completion of the film saga.
Star Wars Marathon
At Leicester Square's VUE and Odeon West End Cinemas, individually ticketed performances of Episodes I, II, IV, V and VI of the Star Wars saga will screen throughout the day. Fans will also be able to attend special free performances of unforgettable Star Wars music presented by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra; other surprise activities are also planned. The 501st UK Garrison of Stormtroopers will be on duty all day to ensure order is upheld in the Square.
"Revenge of the Sith is a remarkable movie, and this extraordinary celebration reflects the fun and excitement that are the hallmarks of Star Wars, "said the movie's producer, Rick McCallum. "The Star Wars movies have a strong connection to the United Kingdom, so it's very fitting to hold this one-of-a-kind event here in London."
The culmination of Star Wars ‘Celebration Day’ will be the UK premiere at the Odeon, Leicester Square with expected attendance by Lucas, McCallum and stars Hayden Christensen (Anakin Skywalker), Ian McDiarmid (Palpatine), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO) and Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca), along with other celebrity guests.
The new film is expected to herald another enormous avalanche of merchandising, as is traditional. Fans with fat wallets - or large overdrafts - are geared up to spend those hard earned intergalactic groats on everything from Star Wars computer games (mainly the game of the movie, for PlayStation2, and Xbox) to character soaps, action figures, role playing games supplements, clothing of all sorts and a myriad of movie tie-in books and publications. Mobile phone company Orange have already launched a Star Wars: Episode III box set packed with unique saga themed mobile phone accessories.
The long-awaited domestic release of one of the first spin-offs from the original trilogy of films (The Return of the Jedi, to be precise) finally happens, to coincide with the final film. Billed under the somewhat cumbersome title of Star Wars: Ewok Adventures - Caravan Of Courage/The Battle Of Endor this is a DVD of little known feature film adventures featuring – as the title suggests – the cuddly Ewoks who fought the evil Empire in The Return of the Jedi – as the principle characters.
"Watching these fates unfold with such tragic inevitability, watching each piece fall into place, is genuinely thrilling...The seduction of the troubled Anakin to the dark side and the turn of the cool, cerebral Palpatine into the dictator of the Galactic Empire occur in an intelligent and persuasive way." - Kirk Honeycutt (The Hollywood Reporter)
In this film – which features no cast members from the original trilogy - features a family called Towani, who crash their Starcruiser onto the Ewoks’ planet of Endor, where they find the children become separated from the adults – and the adventure begins!
Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith is out on DVD now, rated U.
