The Simpsons Season 2 DVD Collection

As the name suggests, this DVD collection brings together the entire second series of television's The Simpsons. Featuring 23 examples of the animated antics of the most famous yellow family in the world, this collection sees Springfield's finest getting up to all manner of trademark larks.

These four discs feature a host of classic episodes that will have been seen a number of times by anyone following the cartoon series on television but that still consistently raise a chuckle, no matter how many times you see them.

Ideas

For the casual viewer it's strange to discover that The Simpsons episodes actually have individual titles, although they don't appear on screen when they're broadcast on television. Another revelation is just how many gags and incidents are packed into each of these relatively early episodes. Upon viewing them again - and in sequence - it's astonishing how fast the ideas come and how packed full of incident and wit the individual episodes are. So inventive is some of this that you find yourself imagining the material was spread over a number of episodes, only to find out that more remembered bits than you could have imagined sit side by side.

This is the season where the show really got into its stride, with its quirky, lop-sided take on family life, America and a big fat yellow guy who likes donuts. At approximately 640 minutes running time and chock-full of extra features, this is another sure-fire winner from the House of Groening.
