Raise shields for an epic game of starship combat spanning 40 years of the Star Trek universe.
Fancy an epic game of Starfleet combat spanning the entirety of Gene Roddenbery's Star Trek Universe. This ambitious new title features all the ships from every episode, every film? You’ll need to 'join up' for Star Trek: Legacy then.
Star Trek: Legacy, for the Xbox360 places you in the role of the Admiral of a task force of warships and tries your strategic and tactical skills in real-time combat featuring authentic spaceships, full damage modelling and spectacular visual effects. The storyline spans the entire Star Trek universe, including Star Trek 'the Original Series', Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: Enterprise eras. Taking advantage of next-generation consoles, Star Trek: Legacy features dynamic three-dimensional battlefields with graphically stunning space environments and full multiplayer support.
All five actors who portrayed the Star Trek series captains - William Shatner, Patrick Stewart, Scott Bakula, Avery Brooks, and Kate Mulgrew - provide voiceovers in the Star Trek: Legacy video game. This unique collaboration marks the first time the five actors have participated in a single Star Trek project together - in any medium.
William Shatner
“I am delighted to have the chance to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Star Trek with my fellow captains by providing our voices to Star Trek: Legacy,” said Shatner. “Bethesda Softworks has done an excellent job in creating an exciting game that stays true to Star Trek’s roots and accurately incorporates elements from each series.”
As the game hits the shelves in the US (a UK release date has been promised soon) the Star Trek franchise - which debuted back in 1966 with Captain James T. Kirk in the hot seat - celebrated its 40th anniversary.
“We are absolutely thrilled to have the five actors who portrayed the Star Trek captains take part in this project,” said Todd Vaughn, vice president of development, Bethesda Softworks. “Their participation, especially since it takes place during the series’ 40th anniversary, will add to the fun and excitement of the game and emphasizes our commitment to provide fans with the most authentic Star Trek experience possible.”
Epic Score
Veteran video game and film/TV composers Rod Abernethy and Jason Graves (Blazing Angels, The Hobbit) have created the original sci-fi orchestral scores for Bethesda Softworks’ upcoming titles Star Trek: Legacy (Xbox 360 videogame and entertainment system from Microsoft and Windows), Star Trek: Tactical Assault (PSP (PlayStation Portable) system and Nintendo DS) and Star Trek: Encounters (PlayStation2 computer entertainment system).
Rod Abernethy and Jason Graves have produced 60-minutes of classic symphonic style music for the highly anticipated next-generation Star Trek video game, Star Trek: Legacy, the first ever project to feature all five actors who portrayed the Star Trek series captains. Developed under the direction and supervision of Bethesda Softworks at the studios of Mad Doc Software, Rednote’s score for Legacy fully captures the grand-scale feel and spirit of the Star Trek universe.
Acclaimed Star Trek writer Dorothy 'D.C.' Fontana, with her partner, Derek Chester, have collaborated to write the scripts for the title – alongside their similar job on the Star Trek: Tactical Assault game. Fontana, a prominent creative force behind the Star Trek franchise since its television beginnings with Spock, Kirk and Scotty et al, continues to contribute to its broad-based appeal with vibrant and innovative storylines.
“We are thrilled to have one of Star Trek’s most prolific and distinguished writers on our project team,” said Todd Vaughn, Bethesda Softworks’ VP of Development. “Fontana’s involvement underscores our commitment to remain true to the Star Trek vision and provide fans with the exceptional, original and accurate Star Trek games that they deserve.”
Fontana has written countless episodes, spanning the original Star Trek series to Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. In addition to her collaboration on Star Trek, Fontana has influenced television science fiction writing with her work on The Six Million Dollar Man, Babylon 5, and Earth: Final Conflict. In 2001, she was inducted into the American Screenwriters Association Hall of Fame and in both 1997 and 2002, received the Writers Guild Morgan Cox Award for her many years of service to the Guild.
"From TV to videogames, the Star Trek story continues to excite and engage fans of all ages,” said Fontana. “I applaud Bethesda Softworks’ loyalty to the franchise and I am looking forward to providing fans with memorable adventures and characters, all set in creative, compelling storylines.”
Captains Assembled!
The five actors who reprise their roles from their respective series are as follows:
Star Trek: Legacy has been developed by Mad Doc Software, creators of the highly successful and critically acclaimed Star Trek Armada II title.
Parker A. Davis, Legacy Producer at Mad Doc Software, says, “Mad Doc was fortunate enough to recruit the musical talents of Rod Abernethy and Jason Graves to score a completely original soundtrack for Legacy. We’re crafting a game that marries the cinematic appeal of Star Trek and intensity of starship combat, and Rod and Jason captured that beautifully in their score. We’re thrilled with the results and believe gamers and fans of the series will agree it's very Star Trek - very science fiction.”
