School's Out

Fancy a foray into teen rights-of-passage/American Pie territory? The hilarious new Judd Apatow film Superbad - out now on DVD - might be just the ticket.
New from producers Judd Apatow and Shauna Robertson (The 40-Year-Old Virgin), screenwriters Evan Goldberg & Seth Rogen (TVs Da Ali G Show), and director Greg Mottola comes a hilarious new teen comedy Superbad, a coming-of-age cautionary tale about three socially inept teenage boys about to graduate high school.
Theirs is a ridiculously dependent friendship – but now, they've gotten into different colleges and are forced to contemplate life apart. Evan (Michael Cera) is sweet, smart, and generally terrified. Seth (Jonah Hill) is foul-mouthed, volatile, and all-consumed with the opposite sex. This is the story of their misguided attempts to approach the objects of their affections in one panic-driven night...that awful, humiliating night you cherish for the rest of your life.

Here's what some of the critics have made of Superbad already:
"The funniest film in over a decade." - James Mullinger (GQ.com).
"The only problem with this insanely funny movie is that it's going to incite envy from anyone in the audience who thought high school was for studying." - Harvey S. Karten
(Compuserve).
"No question - the best comedy of the year." - (Zoo magazine).
"A marvelous late-summer surprise, a film that's small in scope but big on laughs..." - Ethan Alter (Film Journal).
"Like American Graffiti and Dazed and Confused, the film all takes place during a single day and night. But it doesn't have the smarts or the depths of those ensemble comedies." - Stephen Farber (The Hollywood Reporter).
"Full of belly laughs and brilliant gags." - The News of The World.
"Superbad is cute if you like guys who aren't even remotely bad, in a coming-of-age tale so old-fashioned the girls might just as well be wearing bloomers." - Lisa Schwarzbaum (Entertainment Weekly).
"In any hands other than producer Judd Apatow's...this voyage might have been a puerile mess of knob-gaggery. But as it is, it's well acted by its juvenile cast and layered with pleasing emotional maturity and buddy sentiment as their short sweet adventure sees the lads grow up fast." - Sharon Lougher (Metro newspaper).
