Re-Foc by Rodrigo y Gabriela

"A dextrous guitar duo from Mexico City, Rodrigo Sanchez and Gabriela Quintero epitomise all that is great and trailblazing in world fusion..." – Jazzwise.

Mexican guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela have been winning over both crowds and critics alike with their unique blend of Latin, jazz and flamenco with metal touches. Keen eared audiences – such as the soggy bunch at WOMAD, who were up on their feet when the duo slipped a couple of bars of Deep Purple’s hairy classic Smoke On The Water into the proceedings – will also notice nods to Dave Brubeck, The White Stripes, Metallica & even Survivor’s Eye Of The Tiger!

Fire

Before they came to Europe, Rodrigo y Gabriela were guitarists for Mexican metal outfit Tierra Acida. Just as they were about to sign a major deal, Rodrigo and Gabriela jumped ship and then moved to Ireland, and have lived there on and off for the last five years.

After busking on the streets of the capital shortly after they arrived, they graduated indoors and soon started to make a name for themselves on the Irish live scene, consistently bowling audiences over with their virtuoso guitar playing. The pair recorded the album Re-Foc (after the Catalan for ‘fire’) in Dublin before travelling to Madrid where they worked on the same mixing desk as two of their flamenco heroes Paco de Lucia and Vicente Amigo.

Now their reputation is rapidly spreading across the UK after they were special guests to Damien Rice at his sell out Union Chapel & Shepherd's Bush Empire gigs earlier this year and then stunned the crowds at a series of festivals including the aforementioned WOMAD & Leicester’s Summer Sundae. Indeed, their mid-afternoon slot in a rammed-full acoustic tent at Glastonbury 2003 is fast becoming the stuff of legend. In addition to their UK dates, you can also catch them performing in two new movies - In America and Goldfish Memory.

"They are both extremely fine and original guitarists, capable of trading cool, slick or furious licks." - The Guardian

"There can be no doubting the promise of this duo, and the Irish-Hispanic mix could be a heady source of future experiments – and no doubt some hits..." - BBC Music magazine.

"Gobsmackingly proficient and inventive...those that caught their set at Glastonbury came away waxing rapturously..." - London listings magazine Time Out (London)
