Ill At Ease?

Last updated: 11/10/2006 - 10:14

Enter the soundworld of Elizabeth Sharp (AKA Ill Ease), via her new recordings. Less of a horror show than the name might suggest...

The Exorcist by Ill Ease

Ill Ease unleash their great new follow up album to last year's Greatest Tits EP. Long-player The Exorcist (available on CD and LP, for all you vinyl lovers) makes a moody introduction to the musical world of Elizabeth Sharp.

Ill Ease is the recording guise of the aforementioned Ms. Sharp. After her stint as drummer for the New Radiant Storm King in the ‘90s, Elizabeth, tired of bands, decided that she’d rather spend time composing songs in her Brooklyn apartment, playing all the instruments herself. Liz lives by nobody’s rules but her own, as The Exorcist shows.

Museum of Modern Art

Meeting at the intersection of intensely personal and universal, her songs flow out of the speakers and into your brain, flipping your switches and leaving their mark. Treading a line that recalls the Rid Of Me era demos of PJ Harvey, of Nottingham's Scout Niblett or occasionally The Kills, Ill Ease have a host of sounds to offer the more discerning ear.

Elizabeth is also an accomplished photographer whose work has been on exhibition at New York’s Museum of Modern Art. The sleeve of The Exorcist features some of Elizabeth’s exclusive work.

The Exorcist was recorded in Athens, Georgia by David Barbe, who also plays guitar on some tracks. Elizabeth Sharp - one of those natural mutli-instrumentalists who started playing drums at 14, before moving swiftly onto bass - adds vocals, drums, guitar, bass and keyboard parts.
