In 1979 Elton John became the first western pop act to play Soviet Russia. This epochal recording of this tour is released as a Silver Anniversary edition DVD – just in time for Elton John’s birthday.
Produced and directed by Ian La Frenais and Dick Clement (Porridge, Auf Wiedersehen Pet) this DVD contains extended footage of his Leningrad - now St. Petersburg - concert along with behind-the-scenes interviews, tour footage a stills gallery and personal insights from the man himself.
Watford
The flamboyant, Watford-born superstar came to a population repressed by decades of harsh living under totalitarian rule with little exposure to music and dancing of any kind. Initially subdued the audience are soon brought to their feet by Elton’s charisma and energy.
All his best known hits are featured including: Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting, Your Song, Daniel, Pinball Wizard from The Who’s legendary rock musical Tommy and, of course, a cover of what is arguably one of Paul McCartney’s finest compositions; The Beatles’ Back in the USSR!
Previously unavailable on DVD this fantastic Silver Anniversary release of To Russia With Elton has been digitally restored and will make a welcome treat for fans of this legendary performer.
Elton John, whose career in music spans more than four decades, has won numerous awards including an Oscar and 5 Grammy Awards.
