Is this the most terrifying live theatre experience in the world? It doesn't get much darker on stage than with the woman in black...
The Woman In Black at the Fortune Theatre, London
Damien Matthews and Paul Shelley star in The Woman In Black, directed by Robin Herford.
An eerie and chilling ghost story about a young solicitor sent to a remote house to wind up the affairs of a recently deceased woman. He pieces together her strange reclusive life...but with what effect on his own?
Acclaimed
Unanimously acclaimed by the critics, Stephen Mallatratt’s adaptation of Susan Hill’s best selling novel combines the power and intensity of live theatre with a cinematic quality inspired by the world of film noir. It is a formula that provides the audiences with an evening of unremitting drama as they are transported into a terrifying and ghostly world.
Now in the 17th year of it's run, the play has so far entertained over 1.5 million people - who have all lived to tell the tale of one of the most exciting, gripping and successful theatre events ever staged. The show celebrated 5000 performances at The Fortune Theatre back in July of 2001 - which was celebrated at the venue with a huge party in the theatre bar.
First performed at Scarborough's theatre-by-the-sea in 1987 The Woman In Black made it's way to London's West End - where it has remianed ever since - back in 1989. The current production has been designed by Michael Holt with lighting by Kevin Sleep and stars Paul Shelley as Arthur Kipps and Damien Matthews as 'The Actor'.
