Carol Reed's epic wartime documentary The True Glory out now on DVD.

The True Glory - From D-Day To The Fall Of Berlin (Collector's Edition).

The latest release in the Imperial War Museum Collection of feature-length film releases is the long-delayed (initially down for release last June) seminal documentary The True Glory (Collector's Edition).

The film vault of the Imperial War Museum houses literally thousands of rare and fascinating war documentaries, preserved for the nation. Now, in partnership with military film specialist DD Video, the Museum is making many of these treasures available to the public on video and DVD.

Fortress Europe

Co-directed by Carol Reed (the man behind such dramas as The Young Mr. Pitt, The Third Man, Our Man In Havana, Kipps, The Agony and the Ecstacy and countless others), The True Glory is widely regarded as one of the greatest war documentaries ever made. This feature length film was produced by the Allies during 1944 and 1945 as a permanent visual record of the campaign in Europe and covers all the major engagements from D-Day to the fall of Berlin, including Omaha Beach, the Falaise Gap, Caen, Arnhem, the liberation of Paris and the attempted allied breakout that became known as the Battle of the Bulge.

Compiled from the pick of over six and a half million feet of film, it includes some of the most devastating and memorable images of the second world war – or of any conflict - ever captured on camera. Over 700 frontline cameramen supplied material for the film – of whom 32 were killed, 101 wounded and a further 16 reported as 'missing in action' during its making.

Frontline Cameramen

Complete with an introduction by General Eisenhower, who was also personally involved with the making of this auspicious film, The True Glory won a well-deserved Oscar in the 'Best Documentary' upon its release.

In addition to The True Glory, this new video and DVD release also includes four further full-length wartime documentaries covering the campaign in Europe - From Italy To D-Day, From D-Day To Paris, From Paris To The Rhine and From The Rhine To Victory - all of which were contemporary film shorts produced by British Paramount News for the wartime Ministry of Information.

Other titles already available as part of the Imperial War Museum Collection include The Royal Air Force At War, The Royal Navy At War, Speed Up On Stirlings and Wavell's 30,000.

The True Glory - From D-Day To The Fall Of Berlin (Collector's Edition) is available to now on double video or two disc DVD, from DD Video.
