John C. Reilly stars as the larger-than-life musician and songwriter Dewey Cox in a comic film that's most obviously inspired by the 2006 Oscar-winning Johnny Cash biopic Walk The Line but that also owes a great deal to the style of folk-joke documentary A Mighty Wind, Rob Reiners' This Is Spinal Tap and a dash of Tenacious D In The Pick of Destiny - not to mention just about every other rock and pop biopic made in recent times...

America loves Cox! But behind the music is the up-and-down-and-up-again story of a musician whose songs would change a nation. On his rock ‘n roll spiral, Cox sleeps with four hundred and eleven women (!), marries three times, has twenty-two kids and fourteen stepkids, stars in his own 1970s television show, collects friends ranging from Elvis to the Beatles to a chimp, and gets addicted to – and then kicks – every drug known to man...but despite it all, Cox grows into a national icon and eventually earns the love of a good woman – longtime backup singer Darlene - played by Jenna Fischer (The Brothers Solomon, television’s The Office: An American Workplace).

Here's what some of the critics have made of the film:

"Knocked up hurriedly, you feel, in between Apatow's other projects, Walk Hard is the feted writer-producer's first fumble. As Spinal Tap's Nigel Tufnel might have put it, this one only goes to two-and-a-half." - Jon Fortgang (Channel 4 Film)

"John C Reilly just about holds together a funny but patchy comedy that puts a ten-megaton bomb under the cliched rock biopic – and never detonates it." - Damon Wise (Empire Magazine).

Co-written and produced by Judd Apatow (Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby; Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy) Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story has been co-written, produced and directed by Jake Kasdan.
