Peggy - played by Saturday Night Live regular Shannon - is a happy-go-lucky secretary. A great friend, employee and sister who lives alone with her beloved dog, 'Pencil'. Peggy and Pencil are inseparable companions. They sleep together, eat together, and even take-in Friday night movies together. Life is uncomplicated and safe, and although Pencil is a Beagle, Peggy is happily entrenched in a satisfying relationship of co-dependency with her beloved pet.
Loss
But with great love comes the potential for greater loss, and Peggy?s world comes crashing down when Pencil unexpectedly dies - meeting a mysterious demise in the neighbour?s yard. Left to pick-up the pieces of her shattered life, Peggy must embark on a journey of personal transformation to fill the void. Friends, family and co-workers try to distract Peggy from her misery with their own obsessive quests for happiness, but in the end, she emerges from her loss with a new found sense of her place in the world and what it takes to make her happy.

Here's what some of the critics have been making of this quirky new comedy:
"What could have been a feel-good performance from Molly Shannon is instead delicate, poignant, and an unexpected display of dramatic mastery from an actress who's made her name with comedy.Hilarious, poignant and heartbreaking." - Christy Lemire (Associated Press).
"Evinces an appealing sentimentality without being maudlin or only puppy-dog cute." - Duane Byrge (The Hollywood Reporter).
"A charming film that is neither saccharin nor sanctimonious as it treads the well-worn romantic comedy genre, not so much dismantling it as rearranging it just enough to make it interesting - and perhaps just a little scary." - Tim Cogshell (Boxoffice Magazine).
Year of The Dog marks the directorial debut for Mike White - writer of Chuck & Buck, The Good Girl, Nacho Libre and School of Rock.
