Brand new live-action romantic comedy Enchanted could be the latest in a long line of Disney festive classics as it asks the question: Can a storybook view of romance survive in New York City?

Enchanted

Classic Disney animated fairy tale meets with the modern, live-action romantic comedy in Walt Disney Pictures’ Enchanted. Featuring an all-star cast, the film follows the beautiful princess Giselle - played by Amy Adams - as she is banished by an evil queen - Susan Sarandon (Thelma & Louise) from her magical, musical animated land and finds herself in the gritty reality of the streets of modern-day Manhattan.

Shocked by this strange new environment that doesn’t operate on a 'happily ever after' basis, Giselle is now adrift in a chaotic world badly in need of enchantment. But when Giselle begins to fall in love with a charmingly flawed divorce lawyer - played by Patrick Dempsey - who has come to her aid - even though she is already promised to a perfect fairy tale prince - James Marsden - back home – she has to wonder: can a storybook view of romance survive in the real world?

Pleasantville?

Book-ended by nine minutes of new Disney 2D animation, Enchanted contains all the classic features of a Disney family film, with a captivating lead performance from Amy Adams, and a unique blend of live action and classic Disney animation, Enchanted is a film that the whole family are going to love this Christmas.

Enchanted is directed by Kevin Lima (Tarzan, Eloise At Christmastime) from a screenplay written by Bill Kelly (Blast From the Past) and features original songs from the reunited team of acclaimed composer Alan Menken and lyricist Stephen Schwartz (Pocahontas, Hunchback of Notre Dame).

Here's what some of the critics have been saying about Enchanted:

"Subversive enough for older brother, sweet enough for kid sis, this cine-panto’s a safe if not spectacular choice for a Chrimbo family outing. The cartoon chipmunk almost steals it, but Adams’ dippy dazzle is the movie’s heart, soul and lungs." - Matthew Leyland (Total Film magazine).

"It may sound like faint praise to say that Enchanted is the movie of the year for smart and spirited 11-year-old girls. But a movie that genuinely respects that audience is not to be belittled...I was less taken with the film's attempts to be all things to all people – stage show, animated feature, musical, romance. The big numbers by Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz are hummable all right, but in that strenuously show-biz way that ensures you'll be hearing them again on Oscar night as part of some spangly production number. " - Christian Science Monitor

"The picture climaxes strongly and sweetly. Silly me, I got choked up. But then all too soon, the film takes an awful turn. It's a segment of about 5 minutes long integrated seemingly only for its special effects appeal. It's awful and distracts strongly from an otherwise beautiful climax." - Ross Anthony (www.rossanthony.com). Read the full review here.
