Uncertain, Perhaps?

Ryan Reynolds, Isla Fisher, Derek Luke, Abigail Breslin, Elizabeth Banks and Rachel Weisz star in new romantic comedy Definitely, Maybe.

Ryan Reynolds (Smokin’ Aces and the upcoming Fireflies in the Garden) stars as advertising executive Will Hayes in a romantic comedy about a man who hopes a second look at the past will give him a second chance at the future: Definitely, Maybe.

Joining Reynolds for the new film from writer/director Adam Brooks (Wimbledon, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, French Kiss) that explores love from many sides is an international cast—including Isla Fisher (pictured, right, well-known from Scooby-Doo, Wedding Crashers, Hot Rod and Australian televisions' Home & Away), Derek Luke (Antwone Fisher, Friday Night Lights), Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine, No Reservations), Elizabeth Banks (The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Invincible) and Academy Award winner Rachel Wiesz (The Constant Gardener, The Fountain, The Mummy/The Mummy Returns) — coming together to tell a modern fairy tale with a welcome twist on the genre.

30-Something

Will, a 30-something Manhattan dad in the midst of a divorce, is surprised when his 10-year-old daughter, Maya (Breslin), starts to question him about his life before marriage. Maya wants to know absolutely everything about how her parents met and fell in love. His story begins in 1992, as a young, starry-eyed aspiring politician who moves to New York from Wisconsin in order to work on the presidential campaign. For Maya, Will relives his past as an idealistic young man learning the ins and outs of big city politics, and recounts the history of his romantic relationships with three very different women.

Will hopelessly attempts a gentler version of his story for his daughter and changes the names so Maya has to guess who is the woman her dad finally married. Is her mother Will’s college sweetheart, the dependable girl-next-door Emily (Banks)? Is she his longtime best friend and confidante, the apolitical April (Fisher)? Or is she the free-spirited but ambitious journalist Summer (Weisz)?

As Maya puts together the pieces of her dad’s mystery love story, she begins to understand that love is not so simple or easy. And as Will tells her his tale, Maya helps him understand that it’s definitely never too late to go back...and maybe find a happy ending.

Here's what some of the critics have made of the film:

"We get a rare look at a long personal journey through relationships - including his relationship to politics - from the point of view of the man, and a new appreciation of the silver lining on even the saddest cloud." - Karina Montgomery (Cinerina).

"There are no star turns here, but the cast out in a strong performance and the storyline is just that bit more tantalising than your average fluffy rom-com...A well-observed take on the 1990s...the advent of the internet is captured in all its slow, dial-up glory, and now dated politics make an amusing backdrop." - Zena Alkayat (Metro newspaper).

"This slick romantic comedy has several things going for it, including an interesting premise and an attractive cast. Getting all its elements to cohere, however, is too often just beyond its grasp." - Kenneth Turan The I>Los Angeles Times newspaper).

"For a Valentine's Day romantic comedy Definitely, Maybe hits all the right notes of commitment, honesty and maturity that go into a young father's explanation to his daughter about the women he dated before she was conceived." - Cole Smithey (ColeSmithey.com).

"Enjoyable, emotionally engaging and frequently amusing romcom with a charming central performance from Ryan Reynolds and superb support from Abigail Breslin and the three lead actresses." - Matthew Turner (ViewLondon).

"Definitely a comedy, maybe a romance -- has enough sophistication and surprise to keep even the most hardened curmudgeon smiling to the bittersweet end." - Anton Bitel (Channel 4 Film).

"A terminally bland, brutally overlong tale of tedious, attractive people and their banal romantic problems." - Sean Burns (Philadelphia Weekly).
