The nation's best-known TV bobbies give meat a suspended sentence and take up the veggie challenge!
To celebrate the cuisine of choice for the ever increasing number of people who are dropping meat from their diet, one of television’s longest serving officers – on ITV cop show The Bill - P.C.Carver (other wise known as actor Mark Wingett) went veggie for National Vegetarian Week.
Pictured (right): The Bill bobbies - alias actors Mark Wingett, Daniel MacPherson, Beth Cordingly and Scot Maslen - tuck in for Vegetrarian Week with Kerry Bennett, from The Vegetarian Society.
Carver was joined on his mission by fellow Sun Hill bobbies P.C. Cameron Tait (former Neighbour's heartthrob, Australian actor Daniel MacPherson) and P.C. Kerry Young (played by Beth Cordingly).
Veteran Vegetarian
Keeping the crack squad on the straight and narrow was veteran vegetarian, Scott Maslen, who plays D.S. Phil Hunter in the hugely popular series. Scott is passionate about vegetarianism and passionate about food so was thrilled at the opportunity to promote awareness of vegetarianism.
Unfortunately over the last 15 years of his acting career, he has on occasion suffered at the hands of TV and film caterers who simply didn't understand his dietary needs! During the week the venturing vegetarians didn't encounter any such problems as all their meals were created by the team of vegetarian chefs at Soho's Plant restaurant.
National Vegetarian Week – held every year in the UK - aims to let everyone know how easy and tasty a veggie diet can be. Organised and co-ordinated by The Vegetarian Society, the week remains the most successful way for the Society to raise its public profile and promote a wholesome, interesting vegetarian diet.
Vegetarian Products
Over 1000 retailers used the week to highlight vegetarian products, libraries around the country hosted information displays and over 2000 schools also took part, serving up special vegetarian food every day and handing out recipe bookmarks that also provided a handy quick guide to vegetarian nutrition.
