20th Century Fox are backing the 'MediCinema' appeal to bring big screen healing to more UK hospitals.
Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment have announced that they would be celebrating a hundred years of Cinema with a special campaign to support charity MediCinema and their Million Pound Appeal. Activity will take the form of various fundraising initiatives throughout the remainder of the year, and aims to not only raise valuable funds, but to use distribution of the celebratory 'Century of Cinema' DVD range to increase the charity's profile.
Mariella Frostrup
MediCinema provides 'Big Screen Therapy' for hospital patients by installing state-of-the-art cinemas in hospitals across the UK, and MediCinema Patron and movie-buff Mariella Frostrup – one of a veritable who's who of film names that support the charity - officially launched the campaign at the MediCinema in St. Thomas' Hospital earlier this month.
The launch night also marked the start of the first of the fundraising activities; an auction of exclusive rare off-camera photographic prints from behind-the-scenes of some of Fox and MGM's best-ever blockbusters. They include intimate celebrity shots from films such as: Fight Club, Die Hard, Thelma and Louise and Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line; the latter stated, by patients, as one of the most popular films ever shown in MediCinema.
From August onwards Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will also be placing information leaflets about MediCinema in the final two sets of DVDs being released as part of the Century of Cinema DVD collection: A Celebration of Song and Dance and A Celebration Of Horror. Amounting to over 500,000 individual DVDs and box sets Fox are hoping to create more awareness and encourage donations to the Million Pound Appeal, which will be spent on opening more MediCinemas, in more hospitals across the country.
St Thomas' Hospital
Christine Hill, Founder and CEO of MediCinema says: “I want to use this opportunity to thank Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment for their invaluable support with our appeal. Funds raised will allow more patients to experience the magic of MediCinema, giving them, their family and carers, the opportunity to have a much needed break from the confines of the ward and the routine of hospital life. Following the success of the first MediCInema at St Thomas' Hospital, London and the newly opened MediCinema at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow, funds raised during our Million Pound Appeal will go towards establishing further MediCinema's in Newcastle, Newport and Stoke Mandeville.”
MediCinema has among its patrons the newest incarnation of James Bond, Casino Royale star Daniel Craig, original Avengers girl Kathy Gale in the shape of Honor Blackman, Truly Madly Deeply star actress Juliet Stephenson and Superman's latest Lex Luthor Kevin Spacey.
