For a lovely lush lawn, simply follow our easy lawncare tips.
Irrigation
Try watering your plants late at night or first thing in the morning. This will help to control over-evaporation
Don’t over-water. Like houseplants, a lawn is more receptive to frequent watering than to infrequent over-watering
Clearly changing weather conditions need to be considered. There is no need to follow a strict watering timetable during a period of heavy rainfall
If you have the time, and don’t want to invest in an automated spraying system, an even handed watering a couple of times each day should be ideal in most circumstances
Fertilise, Fertilise, Fertilise
The more you do this, the lusher your grass will be
Consider the environment. A wide range of ecologically friendly domestic fertilisers are available from supermarkets and garden centres
Consider buying in bulk if you are planning a long campaign of fertilising, but remember that whatever you buy and do not use will need to be stored correctly to be at its best for when you do need it
A lawn that grows faster will also tend to be stronger, so you will be making more work for yourself when it comes to the mowing and trimming
Turf should ideally be fertilised on a six to eight week cycle
There's little point fertilising twice as often as recommended, as your lawn will just adapt and need more water and maintenance
Be Consistent
Once you start to fertilise, trim and police those weeds
During winter a lawn needs less attention, but it needs fertiliser and food. Two solid feeds should be more than sufficient to maintain your lawn through the winter months
Don’t Overdo It
Don't be over-enthusiastic when it comes to how much fertiliser you use. Too much of a good thing is not necessarily good for your lawn, or for the environment as a whole
Excessive use of fertilisers can easily overload and damage your lawn and other garden growth can be affected
Always follow manufacturer’s instructions closely when it comes to handling, mixing and using fertilisers
