Insurance Gives Peace of Mind

When travelling abroad it is essential that you safeguard yourself against any eventuality.
Holiday insurance is a very important part of the travel experience. Besides protecting you and your belongings, it is also gives enormous peace of mind.
Insurance can be sold to you in many ways, and sometimes seeing the wood for the trees is tricky. Here are a few pointers to help you out. Remember that, when offered insurance as part of your holiday, the rep is not an insurance salesman, but is usually after commission. They sometimes do not fully understand the policy, and do not be fooled - it may well be cheaper elsewhere.
Over The Counter
Over the counter insurance sales are common. Mostly it is a separate insurer that has the responsibility to sort things out with the holiday company after selling you the policy. Take care to read the exemptions on the policy - these could include things such as illness or cancellation.
With insurance by post you have one distinct advantage: you get enough time to read all the information at your leisure. Just apply yourself for the extra few minutes; read the pages and check where you are and aren't covered.
Telesales insurance is similar to the other types, but you will get your 'hand held' through the entire process and some of the questions that they ask may seem obvious - bear with them as they are only safeguarding against possible accusations of mis-selling in the future.
Policies
Try to bear in mind the specific terms of policies. For example: is there an excess limit; how far is health covered; are there exemptions if you do something reckless or deliberate that leads to a claim - for instance water skiing and abseiling? Do pay attention to small print - those small, almost-smudged words may come back to haunt you.
Shop Around
It may seem obvious but you should check as many sources as you can for your insurance. Credit card companies, internet sites and high-street insurers all compete fiercely for your business. The extra time and effort will be well worth it in terms of cover and cost.
