A Magical Mystery Tour

Last updated: 22/09/2006 - 11:43

City of London Sheriff Kevin Kearney gave a big (cartoon) thumb’s up to London Cabbies as they took more than 182 London kids off on a 'Magical Mystery Tour' weekend trip to the Disneyland Resort in Paris.

Sheriff Kearney - whose serious job is promoting financial services - entered into the fun spirit of the day when he waved off the Dover-bound convoy of 97 black cabs and 11 support vehicles after a slap-up breakfast at Canary Wharf’s Cabot Hall.

Since 1994 the Hackney Carriage Drivers’ Company has taken children suffering from a range of chronic debilitating and life-limiting conditions on an annual three-day trip of a lifetime to Disneyland Paris.

Sheriff Kearney said: “Black cabs are at the heart of London’s business infrastructure and it’s wonderful to see the Black Cabbie heart so generous and supportive to children who really need a boost.”

Phil Davies, organiser, said: “It was a great trip: special thanks to the nine Police motorcycle outriders from City of London, Cleveland, and the Gendarmerie Nationale forces who accompanied us all the way to Paris – we didn’t have to stop once!”
