Last updated: 07/09/2006 - 09:38

A guide to the passions and skills involved in bringing old motors back to showroom condition.

Bob Rowland was only 18 when he spotted a card in a local newsagent advertising a Triumph Herald for sale.

He bought it for £135 and, with the help of a neighbour, completely restored the car to its former glory. Gaining confidence, he then bought a Vitesse convertible for £75, rebuilt it and has since been a committed, long-term enthusiast of car restoratiions.

Since then, he has restored many Triumph Heralds, Vitesses Spitfires, GT6s, Bonds, Amphicars, 2000s, Dolomites and is now recognised as one of the leading authorities of Triumph restoration.

His specialist services also include:

  • Breakdown recovery

  • Trim fitting

  • Accident repair to full restoration

  • Engine, gearbox fitting service available

  • Reconditioned chassis

  • Full range parts - mail order service

  • Sandblasting and powdercoating

  • Cars for breaking

As well as repairing and restoring Triumphs, Bob also runs a popular spares finder service.

He also buys and sells classic cars from Triumph 2000s to GT6s. At present, models available include a Triumph Spitfire 1500, fully taxed and with MOT; Herald Convertible; Triumph Stag; and Mk2 Vitesse Saloon.
