Officers In Line For Award
Last updated: 07/09/2006 - 10:42
Two Northumbria Police officers recognised for outstanding policing are finalists in a national awards scheme.
Community Beat Manager PC Paul Williamson - based in Newcastle Central Area - Command and PC Michael Trainer - a probationer – are in the running for the 2003 ‘Police Review Community Policing’ awards will be announced.
On The Beat
Last year the national award was won by another officer from the same force - Northumbria's PC Helen Graham. The award recognises the work of Police officers on the beat, with the winner receiving a £3,000 bursary to enable them to study community policing in another country.
PC Williamson's beat includes the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle University, Northumbria University and Exhibition Park, an area with 50,000 students and a small residential population. He has worked in Newcastle Central for seven years and was short listed as a finalist when he won Northumbria's Policing with the Community Day earlier this year.
PC Trainer - based in Gateshead West - joined the force two years ago. He has been nominated for the ‘Probationer of the Year’ award, recognising the achievements of the service's newest recruits. His supervisors said he has shown professionalism beyond anyone else they have encountered with a similar level of service.
“First Class Officers”
The winner of this award receives a £1,000 bursary to help further their knowledge of policing in a European country.
Northumbria Chief Constable Crispian Strachan, who will be accompanying the officers to the awards ceremony, said: "These officers are excellent examples of Northumbria staff. They have demonstrated commitment and dedication that goes into making first class officers. They have used their personal skills to build trust with the communities they serve and deliver a quality professional service as expected of Northumbria Police."
