Love Them Or Lose Them

According to the latest research the first day back after any given bank holiday is a prime time for discontented employees to have transformed themselves into job hunters.
While most people are worrying about the weather during public holidays bosses in Britain need to make sure their staff are as happy as possible before they go off for their bank holiday break - or risk losing them upon return.
Research carried out by online careers/recruitment resource Monster has revealed that almost half of UK workers are likely to look for a new job after that extra day off. In total 735 respondents were questioned and 49% responded that a bank holiday would make them 'more likely' to look for a new job with 33% responding that they would 'definitely plan' to job search after such a break.
Take Stock
Monster’s life coach Jenny Ungless commented: “People use their weekends to recover from the week at work, catch up with chores, see friends etc, the bank holiday Monday gives them that extra day to take stock and consider issues such as job satisfaction, career progression etc...”
Advice from the organisation suggests that employers need to make sure their staff start their public holiday breaks in a positive frame of mind - perhaps by giving them an early end to the working day on the Friday they finish. Such acts of 'good will' - Monster suggest - costs the employer comparatively little but help staff to feel valued and ensure they come back from the long weekend refreshed and energised - rather than ready to throw in the towel!
